Eco Centre Update

Following months of fundraising, consultation and planning, we are pleased to announce that we will be shortly starting work on site at our new location (on land next to the Strawberry Garden Centre, Bramshall Road) to create Uttoxeter’s first community-led Eco Centre and Recycling Facility. Pictured above is the layout that shows our four areas on site, an eco classroom, a community drop-in lounge, the small gardens and The Litterbug Project recycling workshop.

The centre is due to open on the 3rd November 2018, starting with a free Edible Gardening community workshop, funded by Tesco Bags of Help. This will be the start of a range of future community courses and events to be hosted in our eco room and community lounge, both of which will also be available for private hire, to help raise funds for the project.

The recycling workshop will recycle and craft with waste plastic that would have otherwise littered our environment, gone to landfill or to incineration. As well as being a thriving social enterprise, supporting other community groups and local charities, we will be running classes and sharing the process of our recycling with schools, community and volunteers, for a hands on experience of crafting with plastics.

To get us open as planned, we are looking for volunteers, that are handy with a paintbrush and tools, to come down and help us set up between 23rd – 28th Oct, as there’s lots of painting and DIY that needs to happen to get us ready for our launch.  If you would like to lend a hand, please email kate.copeland@globefoundation.org.uk  We are also looking for unwanted furniture that we can reuse, including chairs, desks, sofas etc, so again, please get in touch if this is something that you can help with.

We look forward to providing the instalment of our progress on site, watch this space…
